Sodhi

SODHI

This recipe is from Sri Lanka. Lanka is known well for appam, idiyappam and puttu. This recipe goes well with them. My granny is an awesome cook.. Today its her recipe !!

Ingredients:

coconut - 1 half

onions - 1/2

tomato - 1/2

potato - 1

fenugreek seeds - 1 tsp

saunf seeds - 1 tsp

mustard seeds - 1 tsp

urad dal - 1 tsp

oil - 2 tbsp

curry leaves - 10

red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp

greeen chillies - 4

water - 2 cups

bay leaf - 1

cloves - 2

turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp


Method:

- in a wok add oil

- when the oil is hot add mustard seeds, urad dal and fry

- when they are golden brown add the fenugreek seeds and saunf seeds

- add the curry leaves

- add the bay leaf and the cloves

- cut the onions length wise

- add them in the oil and fry

- add the turmeric powder and red chilli powder. Add salt to taste

- cut the green chillies and the tomatoes length wise

- add them to the oil and fry until they are smashed

- make thick milk with coconut by grinding them

- make a second milk as well

- finely chop the potato and add them to the wok

- fry well

- add water and cover them with a lid

- when the potato is cooked

- add the coconut milk and remove from fire when the sodhi is about to get boiled

This recipe goes well with appam, idiyappam, chappathi and dosa
