Gonkura Dhal

This is my Grandmom's recipe. My most favourite too. This is a little tangy and awesome. Can be taken with rice and papad. That would be the best combination.

Gonkura leaves - 2 cups (finely chopped)
thuvar dhal - 1 cup
green chillies - 6 (chopped)
garlic - 1 pod (peeled)
salt to taste
sambar powder - 1 tsp
onions - 2 (chopped)
salt to taste
turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
hing powder - 1/4 tsp
vadagam (refermy powders page) - 1 tbsp
oil - 2 tbsp

- in a pressure pan add the washed leaves, dhal, 1 onion, green chillies, salt, turmeric powder, hing powder, sambar powder, garlic and some water
- allow that to cook and mash it well to a paste
- in a pan add oil
- add the vadagam and fry for 2 - 3 mins
- add the remaining onions and fry till they brown in colour
- add the tadka to the dhal mixture and allow that to boil for a few mins
- remove from fire and serve
