Basic Cake

Flour - 3/4 cup
baking powder - 1/2 tsp
butter - 1/2 cup
sugar - 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp
eggs - 2
vanilla essence - 1 tsp
warm milk - 1/4 cup

- mix baking powder with flour and seive thrice
- seperate white egg and the yold seperately
- powder the sugar
- in a bowl add butter and sugar
- beat until they are well blended and froathy
- add the vanilla essence, beat well
- add the egg yolk and beat well
- add the maida 1 tbsp at a time and beat.
- do not beat too well, just fold into the butter mixture
- if you feel the mixture is too hard to beat add the milk
- finish off the milk and maida slowly and until they are well blended
- beat the egg white until they form peaks
- add them to the batter and fold in until done
- preheat the oven
- grease the baking pan and pour in the batter
- bake at 180 degrees for 30 minutes
- check if the cake is done by inserting the tooth pick and it should come out clean

- pour the chocolate fudge while the cake is still hot.

add 2 tsp of cocoa powder and 1/2 tsp of coffee powder (for the dark colour) along with the maida, seive and the rest of the recipe is same. It will yeild a chocolate cake.
